Segesta tour
TOUR DETAILS
For archeology enthusiasts, a unique and unmissable site, which preserves a Doric temple and a Greek theater from the third century. dug into the rock, with the suggestive panorama of the Sicilian countryside in the background
If you love archeology, but above all if you want to experience the thrill of a step back in time, do not miss the visit of the Archaeological Park of Segesta, where you can admire what is considered one of the most fascinating and mysterious sites of Magna Graecia.
According to tradition, Segesta was founded by the people who fled from Troy, the Elimi; the city is therefore strongly linked to Greek culture, which then passed, during the first Punic war, under the dominion of the Romans. The fame of this archaeological site is linked to its two main monuments, the Doric Temple of the 5th century BC with its extraordinary beauty and the fascinating position overlooking a cliff, and the Hellenistic Theater of the 3rd century BC, carved into the rock, located in top of Monte Barbaro, considered one of the most beautiful theaters of the classical period, both for the excellent state of conservation and for its spectacular position with the valleys of western Sicily in the background. In addition to the main attractions, the most recent excavations however, they revealed a much more complex reality.
