An unmissable excursion to discover one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, rich in history, art and maritime traditions. The town of Cefalù develops around its Cathedral, declared a UNESCO heritage site in 2015, dating back to the 12th century but which still retains its ancient appearance and houses the precious Byzantine mosaic that dominates the altar. The historic center is divided into narrow cobbled streets typically medieval, overlooked by the numerous shops of handicraft products. The churches and noble palaces enrich the city with their architectural decorations that show all the prestige of a glorious past. Particularly characteristic is the fishing village in front of the marina, with the colorful fishermen’s houses that still preserve the ancient traditions. Surrounding the entire historic center of the town there is a megalithic wall, dating back to the fifth century BC, which is still largely preserved today. Treat yourself to a romantic moment by exchanging a kiss under the Porta Marina, a suggestive arch with a sea view, which represents the last remaining door of the 4 original doors.

Along via Vittorio Emanuele it is possible to stop at the medieval wash house which has a series of basins formerly used to wash clothes, in which the water flowing from 22 lion heads is collected. Climbing a suggestive naturalistic path, it is possible to reach the top of the Rocca overlooking Cefalù, which offers breathtaking views in every direction! On the cliff there is an interesting architectural complex that incorporates the remains of several buildings built in different eras:  two cisterns for collecting water , the so-called  Temple of Diana , and the remains of  two Byzantine churches. Continuing on the path you will then meet the crenellated walls, a small barracks, the remains of a stone bell tower and a large cross, and finally the remains of houses that testify to the development of a real inhabited center on the Rocca in the Byzantine era.
